Mirth Connect HL7 – Basic Setup with RHEL 6

This is a basic tutorial for setting up Mirth Connect HL7 2.2.1.5186 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) version 6.

I assume in this tutorial that you have already installed RHEL 6 on a physical or virtual machine.

1. Login as the root (super) user.

2. Install java. Go to Oracle’s website and download the latest Java Runtime Environment RPM package to the Desktop. As of this tutorial, java-7-u17-i686-x64.rpm is the latest version. Double-click the rpm package to install.

*Note: You’ll want to remember that Java installed javaws to ?????

3. Install MirthConnect. Go to www.mirth.com, click on ???, and go to the Downloads section. Download the latest production version – as of this tutorial, 2.2.1.5286 is the latest – to the Desktop. Double-click the rpm package to install. Remember to install JAVA FIRST! MirthConnect has some install dependencies on Java.

*Note: MirthConnect will be installed to /opt/mirthconnect/

4. Configure the mcservice before starting.

5. Start the service by executing “./opt/mirthconnect/mcservice start”.

6. You can check the status of the MirthConnect Daemon by running “./opt/mirthconnect/mcservice status” at any time.

7. Add mcservice to system startup…

8. Launch the admin panel and change the default admin password and user information.

That’s it! Your MirthConnect HL7 integration appliance is running!
